Terms of use

Last updated 6 November 2026 (draft)

These terms are an agreement between you, the parent or guardian, and [legal entity name] ("Kidwio", "we", "us"). They cover the Kidwio AI app on iPhone, iPad and Mac and the website kidwio.com. Please read them with our privacy policy and safety page.

1. Who can use Kidwio

  • Kidwio accounts are for adults (18 or over, or the age of majority where you live) who are the parent or legal guardian of the children they add.
  • You must complete our parental consent check before a child can use Kidwio.
  • Kidwio is made for children aged 5 to 12. Children can't create accounts, make purchases or change settings.
  • You're responsible for keeping your password, parent PIN and devices secure, and for everything done in your account.
  • You can invite a second guardian to your family. They get the same views and alerts. Only the guardian whose Apple ID bought the subscription can manage it.

2. Your child's use

You decide whether and how your child uses Kidwio. You agree to give us accurate information about your child's age, because it changes how the buddy answers. We encourage you to read your child's chats and talk with them about what they're curious about.

3. The free allowance

Each family can use 5 chats and 3 whiteboards for free, once. A free chat holds up to 10 messages from your child. The allowance belongs to your family and is tied to your account and your device, so it doesn't reset when you reinstall the app or add a child. We may change the free allowance for new families. Safety replies never count against it.

4. Subscriptions

  • Paid plans give unlimited chats and whiteboards for the number of children on the plan. Plans and prices are listed on our pricing page and shown in the app before you buy.
  • Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store, under Apple's terms. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase. During the beta, purchases are simulated, so nothing is charged. App Store subscriptions come with the App Store release.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each month or year unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings at any time. Deleting your Kidwio account doesn't cancel it.
  • If you cancel, you keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies, at reportaproblem.apple.com. This doesn't affect any rights you have under consumer law.
  • If you add more children than your plan covers, the app asks you to move to a larger plan.
  • If we change the price of your plan, Apple will tell you beforehand and, where required, ask you to agree.
  • Your grown-up corner, including transcripts, the wellbeing view and alerts, stays free whether or not you subscribe.

5. What the AI can and can't do

The buddy's answers are written by AI. We work hard to make them accurate, kind and right for your child's age, but AI can make mistakes, and it can sometimes be wrong while sounding sure. Please keep this in mind:

  • Kidwio is for curiosity and fun. It isn't medical, legal, psychological or other professional advice, and it doesn't replace a parent, teacher, doctor or counsellor.
  • Kidwio is not an emergency service. If a child is in danger, call your local emergency number: 911 in the US, 999 in the UK, or 15 or 1122 in Pakistan.
  • The buddies are characters, not people.

6. Safety

We screen every message and reply, show helplines to children who seem worried, and alert parents as described on our safety page. No system catches everything, so we can't promise that every unsuitable message will be stopped. Please tell us about anything that worries you at support@kidwio.com.

7. Fair use

Please don't:

  • use Kidwio for anything unlawful, or to harm, harass or exploit anyone;
  • try to get around our safety checks, the free allowance or the limits of your plan;
  • let an adult use a child's profile to chat as if they were a child;
  • copy, resell, scrape, reverse engineer or overload Kidwio, or use it to build a competing product;
  • share your account outside your family.

If these terms are broken, we may suspend or close an account. Where we can, we'll tell you first and explain why.

8. Content and ownership

What your child writes stays theirs. You give us permission to use it only to run Kidwio for your family, as described in our privacy policy. Kidwio's software, buddies, artwork, names and design belong to us and our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for your family while these terms apply. Your family may keep and share boards and replies made for your child for personal, non-commercial use.

9. Changes and ending the service

We keep improving Kidwio, so features may change. You can stop using Kidwio and delete your account at any time in the app. If we ever close Kidwio, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and time to export your child's data.

10. Warranties and liability

We provide Kidwio with reasonable care and skill. Apart from that, and to the extent the law allows, Kidwio is provided "as is", without other warranties. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Kidwio in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer. [Counsel to adapt for US, UK and Pakistan consumer law.]

11. Apple

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for Kidwio or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you can tell Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. Apart from that, Apple has no warranty obligation for Kidwio. We, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims about the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory claims, consumer protection claims and intellectual property claims. You confirm that you're not in a country subject to a US government embargo and not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction]. If you live in the UK or another country whose consumer laws give you the right to bring claims in your local courts, you keep that right. [Counsel to confirm dispute resolution for US users.]

13. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top and tell you in the app before important changes take effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using Kidwio and delete your account.
